A long time ago, maybe during the renaissance of Irish music in the
middle of last century, an Irish musician looked at a tenor banjo,
which is a 4-stringed banjo with a shorter neck than the blue grass
kind--often used in Jazz and Zydeco--and noticed it was tuned in
fifths like a fiddle. Since then, tenor banjos, tuned like fiddles
have been somewhat popular in Irish step dance music. For a good

played in Bluegrass, which has its roots in Celtic folk

around so many brilliant musicians who aren't big names that
I'd prefer to listen to a good Irish music session at a pub
than a concert with a big name.<br>

I lately have been partial to the Dervish CD we bought
though. My banjo teacher also introduced me to the Irish
banjo music of Angelina Carberry who is one of the current
masters. I have all of her CD's (but being a beginner banjo
player, I am partial to Irish banjo).<br>

and search for local sessions. I do know that Jessie Burns
from Gaelic Storm does play in the Boulder session once in a
very blue moon.<br>
