Subject: [Cro Dreoilin] Book Group - reading along with CR FAQ, Chapters 1-5

Hello, everybody!

Thanks to everybody who came out yesterday!

For those who are reading along but unable to make it to the meetings,
here are the topics we covered on Sunday:

Nobody seemed to have any questions or remarks, so we dove right into
prepared questions and discussion fodder.

First, I brought up the fact that I think the author understates the
role of women in the Celtic societies, partially to underscore the fact
that CR is different than recreationism by pointing out differences
between modern culture and medieval society and also as a response to
the prehistorical matriarchy crowd.

Next, we asked the questions, "Is there a deity to whom you feel
particularly close? What is your relationship with them?" This led to
discussion about the nature of the divine and what it means to have a
relationship with a God: should it be a relationship of a servant to a
master or a relation more like equals?

Then, we discussed culture and religion: how important is cultural
involvement in pagan religions? Just what constitutes cultural theft?
This led to talking of language as an aspect of culture and its
importance to reconstructionist religions and the impact land and
locality have on 'imported' pagan religions.

At 5, we paid up and all headed out to the Platte to pay our respects.

Please feel free to add your own comments on any of the above or to
bring up any questions or comments you had with regards to this month's
selection.

-- Kelley.
